Compare acrylic and polyurethane sports floors by substrate, comfort, climate, maintenance, installation and life-cycle cost.
Acrylic and polyurethane systems can both create durable sports surfaces, but they solve different project requirements. The right choice depends on whether the area is indoors or outdoors, the existing base, target shock absorption, climate, sport type and maintenance plan.
Where acrylic systems fit
Acrylic coatings are widely used on asphalt or suitable concrete bases for tennis, basketball and multi-use courts. They offer clear colours, predictable ball response and relatively straightforward renewal. Cushion layers can improve comfort, although performance still depends heavily on the flatness and movement of the base.
Where polyurethane systems fit
Polyurethane systems may be designed as compact or elastic layers and are common in indoor sports halls, running areas and selected outdoor applications. They can provide continuous surfaces, controlled elasticity and a broad range of performance finishes. Moisture conditions and primer compatibility require close control during installation.

Specify performance, not only material
The specification should define slip resistance, ball behaviour, shock absorption where required, UV and colour stability, line dimensions and acceptance tests. Ask suppliers to state layer thicknesses, consumption rates and substrate preparation instead of quoting only a system name.
Life-cycle decision
Compare initial work, closure time, cleaning, local repair, periodic renewal and expected service conditions. A lower installation price can become expensive if the base is unsuitable or replacement requires a long shutdown.
