Industrial Epoxy Flooring Guide: Loads, Chemicals and Traffic
Select a factory or warehouse epoxy system by mechanical load, chemical exposure, slip resistance, substrate moisture and downtime.
“Epoxy flooring” is not a single product but a family of systems designed at different thicknesses and performance levels. A technical room with light foot traffic and a production area with forklift movement should not receive the same specification.
Classify the operating load
Pedestrians, pallet trucks, forklifts, hard wheels, dropped tools and vibration create different stresses. Turning zones and loading doors usually wear faster than straight aisles. System thickness and aggregate structure should therefore reflect the highest-risk areas.
Define chemical exposure precisely
“Chemical resistant” is not a complete requirement. Record the substance, concentration, temperature, contact duration and cleaning method. Continuous immersion differs from a short spill. Request a resistance table that matches the actual project conditions.
Inspect concrete and moisture
Concrete strength, surface tensile strength, cracks, oil contamination and moisture must be measured before coating. Mechanical preparation removes weak material and creates a bonding profile. A suitable moisture barrier or vapour-permeable system may be required where rising moisture is possible.

Include downtime in total cost
Preparation, intercoat waiting and full-cure periods must be coordinated with production. Zonal work, off-shift installation or fast-curing systems may reduce operational loss, but speed should never justify poor surface preparation.
